"You mess with one of us, you mess with ALL of us!"
Do you remember that scene, in the first Spider-Man movie? The Green Goblin is about to finish ol' Peter Parker off once and for all, when people from the bridge start pelting the goblin with random objects, and some dude from the Brooklyn Bridge holding a lead pipe yells at him. Then more people throw things at the evil villain...and someone else joins in, and someone different, and so on. That scene shows how the rest of the country used to see the city of New York. In the past, that city could be made up of people from all walks of life; a true melting pot city; but most people just knew - you don't mess with New York.
Regardless of the Afghanistan debacle, at least we know, the old USA, the September 12th Americans of 2001, were like that scene from the first Spider-Man movie.
"You mess with one of us, you mess with all of us!"
That was the attitude of the country then. There was no kneeling during the national anthem. Flags hung on the posts of front porches EVERYWHERE! Race and Creed, sexual preference or identity, what kind of Healthcare you supported, whether someone was 'woke' or not - none of that crap mattered back then.
All America knew back then was someone took those towers down, and a lot of innocent people - our countrymen, lost their lives. America, under attack by a green goblin of a different make and model, truly lived up to the name UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!
I've written in the past about what if those 2997 victims could see us now. Let's face it; 'united' is the last word they'd use to describe us. We could debate all day about what went wrong. But let's see it again:
"You mess with one of us, you mess with ALL of us!"
What would it take for our whole nation to have that attitude again? Have you thought about it?
When I think back on the past two years of 2020 and 2021, I've noticed more and more people open their eyes to another potential Green Goblin. Maybe it's right in front of most of us, almost every day in the news, and several people still can't see it. I do think more people are awakening. I think they are seeing the ugly presence of an old Green Goblin; one that should look familiar. After all, this old Green Goblin kind of gave us our start. I'm talking about none other than, TYRANNY.
Tyranny brought us the American Revolution.
"You mess with one of us, you mess with all of us."
Tyranny, like it or not, brought us the Civil War (with an understandable disdain for slavery, mind you).
And yet both the North and the South thought to themselves, "You mess with one of us, you mess with all of us!"
With all these crazy new restrictions and tyrannical mandates and impositions on people's very freedom to live, around the world - they say the only difference between us and Australia, is about 450 million guns. Tyranny is just coercion on a governmental scale, against that government's own people. How will America answer the call, if Tyranny really is that next Green Goblin?
"You mess with one of us, you mess with all of us!"
Something tells me, that America-Australia comparison may one day be put to the test.
God help us all on that day.
