Protests, protests...

Protests, protests...

my little protests,

See all the PROGRESS I make;

With my mean rhyming words

And my mean little sneer

And my big mean sign on a stake!

Protests, protests...

my little protests,

See how I am saving the world;

With my pie in the sky

And my goals set way too high

And the wisdom of a bar-tending little girl!

Protests, protests...

my little protests,

See how I do the world some good;

With my curse words and pose

And my wrinkled up nose

Shouting things that a moral person never would!

Protests, protests...

my little protests,

It's my right to assemble, don't you know?

When I join in with the mob

Beating up a conservative snob

See how I display my courage so!

Protests, protests...

my little protests,

See how much I get done;

While the grownups are at work

I behave like a jerk

Making sure I give the police lots of fun!

Protests, protests...

my little protests,

See how much I put my life at risk!

With a hundred of my closest friends

We stand in traffic to form dead ends,

How dare you run over us - tsk, tsk, tsk!

Protests, protests...

my little protests,

With my pink hats and thick black glasses;

With all our wisdom

And empty hypocritical words -

MAN, WE SURE LOOK LIKE ASSES

I will close with this; if you're going to protest, find ways to speak your mind and know where you stand. But don't be a fool, gather in some square, shout your head off, spit on the police... and then wonder how you got locked up but talk about all the progress you want to make in this world. It is really getting to be old hat.
